BARNABY’S WORLD OF WONDERMENT presents “STORY BOOK LOVE”
OCTOBER 4, 2009, 11:00 AM TO 6:00 PM
Castro Street Fair in conjunction with Barnaby’s Entertainment announces the second annual interactive entertainment environment known as Barnaby’s World Of Wonderment.
WHAT: WORLD OF WONDERMENT “STORY BOOK LOVE”
Barnaby’s World of Wonderment is an interactive entertainment area focusing on the performing arts and showcasing a wide variety of local theatre, street and circus performers. This years Castro Street Fair Theme “Get Hitched” springs to live throughout the World of Wonderment with everything from bachelor/ette parties, to Marriage Midways, to Story Book Celebrity Weddings, it will be and experience to behold.
WHY: TO ENCOURAGE PLAY WITHIN OUR COMMUNITTY
Short Version:
This October 4th, the block starting at 18th Street from Noe St. to Hartford St. will be transformed into a surreal art performance environment. Featuring over 50 performers artists this event will give San Francisco the gift of old school American entertainment.
Long Version
This October 4th Castro Street Fair will once again host “Barnaby’s World of Wonderment” an artists run endeavor that brings together over 50 seasoned San Francisco and Greater Bay Area performers. Forming an entire block of interactive entertainment, performers will encourage fair goers to suspend disbelieve and engage in free play. World of Wonderment participants call upon all attending Castro Street Fair to play alongside us, and promote wonderment and originality in our daily lives.
Invoking the spirit of old carnie festivals, Barnaby’s World of Wonderment will feature skilled talkers, amazing curiosities, burlesque performers, vaudeville entertainers, and roving musicians, just to name a few staples.
HOW: THIS IS AN AUDIENCE PARTICIPATORY EVENT
Become a character of this world. Volunteer with the production team and help build environments. Bring your own curiosities; actively participate with the performers during the event. The following is a list of who is involved and what they are doing.
- Acro Yoga will be revealing the Secrets of “BALANCED RELATIONSHIPS”
- Bibi|SF Presenting “Bibi’s love Lounge” A cozy Lounge of plushy, cushy relaxation for your loving pleasure.
- Red Hot Burlesque will be entertaining non-stop inside redlights BACHELOR/ETTE PARTY Tent
- Playland-Not-At-The-Beach will shock and awe us with their world famous SIDESHOW
- Charlie Horse’s crew will recreate scenes from Dr. Seuss’s world known Whoville and Lorax
- Tiara Sensation team will populate a MARRIAGE MIDWAY hosting multiple games for lovers and loved ones
- The New Eccentrics will reprise their YBCA successful offering: UNICORN GLAMOUR SHOTS with Splenduh the Unicorn!
- The Brain Machine will make its second visit. Artist/Scientis/Inventors Mitch Altman and Michael Wertz join forces once again to offer faire goers this marvelous experience
- The guys from Trikone SF will show off in a BOLLYWOOD EXTRAVAGANZA designed to tantalize and amaze all around
- Aesops Chapel constructed entirely of oversized tinkertoys will bring you a smile as you witness WONDERMENT CELEBRITY WEDDINGS.
- Franklin Stein & the bride of Franklin Stein will marry before a universal monster party, Dr Seuss Thing One and Thing Two will also tie the knot, and the King of Wonderment will honor two very special community members.
- Origami Paper Zoo Challenge! A paper petting zoo for all to see. The community at large is invited to get those creative juices flowing and have some fun by folding their own entry and have a chance to win $100.
- A FAMILY GARDEN provided by The LGBT Center from 11am-2pm
- And the first ever ACCOUSTIC STAGE featuring performances by Pi, Calvin & Tum Tum Show, and the Mad Maggies
- Feral Faerie Folk, Wondering Musicians, Circus folk, meandering about and interacting with city folk attending this wondrous occasion.

ABOUT CASTRO STREET FAIR
The Castro Street Fair is a community street celebration that was founded by Harvey Milk in 1974. Hundreds of local artists, vendors, craftspeople, and organizations line the streets and celebrate the diversity of the neighborhood. Stages with live entertainment and dance pavilions can be found throughout the fairgrounds.
The Fair is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and all proceeds go directly to charitable causes important to the Castro community. Additionally, the Fair funds the rainbow flag that flies over the intersection of Castro and Market.
Highlights:
- 4th largest GLBT event in the Country
- 3rd Largest in San Francisco
- Originaly produced by Harvey Milk back in 1974 (currently on its 34th run)
ABOUT BARNABY’S ENTERTAINMENT
Barnaby’s Entertainment has been staging theatrical performances in San Francisco since 2001. In 2007, it was solidified as a collaboration of two seasoned artists/producers Max Barnaby and Ernesto Sopprani.
